ARLA letting agent in Wolverhampton, Lawsons are celebrating this month as their owner/MD joins the coveted position of board member of the nationally recognised regulatory body for Letting agents
ARLA (The Association of Residential Letting Agents) which was founded in 1981, by a group of Letting Agents wishing to improve standard within the industry, and has over the last 33 years become the foremost professional body in doing just that, by maintaining the highest standards in its members, throughout the country and working at all levels of letting agency practice, from the business owners, and its employees
The organisation works tirelessly for the benefit of its members and the industry’s consumers alike, working alongside other regulatory bodies to lobby government and assist in all matters relating to ensuring the future of the Private Rental Sector from unnessecary regulation, whilst lobbying for many years for the government to introduce a system where letting agents have to be regulated.
As a Board member, Sally will be part of the steering group, that will work alongside the President, Valerie Bannister, the President Elect, Peter Savage and the Vice President Nik Maden to further develop and guide the group, into this, sure to be exciting, year ahead.
2014-2015, is going to be a turbulent year for the Private Rental Sector, as for the first time the PRS has overtaken social housing as the main provider of homes for the nation after home ownership, this is why there has been so much focus on the industry from government, press and tenant lobbying groups.
There are many changes being proposed currently by various political groups, including, minimum 3 year tenancies, rent capping, banning of tenant fees, licensing of landlords and agents and, in some areas, manadatory licensing of all landlords has already started. Because of this the regulatory bodys aim is to help ensure those working within the industry’s voice is heard, that the position of landlords and agents nationwide is put forward and understood, so that any changes are in the interest of all parties; landlords, tenants and letting agents too.
Sally says “ It is such a pleasure to be welcomed onto the board of ARLA, I started my letting agency in 1990, “Lawson’s in Chapel Ash” and it was when I joined ARLA in 1994, that things really changed for me, I attribute ARLA as being responsible in many ways for my success, through their training and guidance, I learnt to do things the “correct way” right from the start, and this helped me give consistent, great service to my customers for the 24 years of trade, put simply, without them, I dont think I would have been here today doing what I do, So it is a great honour to become part of the management team, and to be able to help them steer through what is potentially going to be one of the hardest phases in the Private Rented Sectors history”
Lawsons was founded in 1990, by Sally Lawson and since then has let over 6000 properties, helped landlords to buy over 450 properties and refurbished over 250 too. The company is staffed by a team of 6 front of house “lettings” staff and a management and client accounting team of 5.
